My name is Annette Brashears, and I am thrilled to be a counselor at Sequoia Counseling Center.
I enjoy working with children,adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I have a special interest in serving survivors of human
My approach to counseling is collaborative and eclectic. The interventions and therapies I enjoy using with clients are Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Guided Imagery, Role Play, Trauma Processing, and Motivational Interviewing. I am
currently training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I
commit to providing a judgment-free environment where you will find complete acceptance and
support. Together we will set goals that will facilitate your personal growth and development.
Your goals may include eliminating or mitigating feelings of distress, increasing self-esteem,
enhancing your understanding of yourself, improving relationships, processing grief or trauma,
and improving your overall mental health.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Texas A&M and a Master of Arts from
Houston Baptist University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional
Counselor Associate (LPC-A) under the supervision of Kristin King. My first job out of college
was with Children’s Protective Services, where I was a Sexual Abuse Investigator and
Caseworker. I returned to school to become a Certified Teacher and was a teacher for 28 years. I
have always loved working with children and helping children navigate through life’s issues and
problems. I lived overseas for 10 years in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia, and Malaysia. I enjoy
learning about different cultures and even learned Arabic and Bahasa Indonesian. I have lived
and taught school in the Cypress area for the last 19 years.
