Life Transitions

There are some things in life that are given. For example, seasons change, children grow up, birthdays come, and careers change. Life continues to move forward during each transition. We learn, we evolve, and we hopefully adapt.

Correction- we have to adapt. Transitions can cause a great deal of anxiety. Anxiety is a strong sense of fear or worry that tells us, “You won’t be able to make it in that new career you worked so hard to achieve.” Anxiety is that fear that says, “You will never survive without your husband or wife.” Or even more commonly, “You didn’t plan well enough to move forward”.

The reason you experience anxiety during transitions is because the transition itself is psychological. You have to mentally redefine yourself during transitions. The process of learning who you are in a new environment creates anxiety. The work that goes into transitioning is hard.

I’d like to tell you that you do deserve good things. You did work hard enough and you are ready. I have put a checklist of things to remember:

Remember it is normal to be afraid during your transition.

Remember your goals and why you made this decision.

Remember to enhance your strengths.

Remember to utilize helpful critiques to better your weaknesses.

Remember all you went through to get to this point.

Keep it in mind that you are prepared for this next phase and have a strong belief that it will work out in the end- because it will. Anxiety is as natural as the transition itself. Like going from winter to spring, it’s a little rough in the beginning but it all works out beautifully. Hang in there, life transitions are difficult for everyone.
